Introduction to the “Lighting Villages Program” in Ethiopia
The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is located in East Africa, covering an area of 1.103 million square kilometers and with a population of 120 million. It is located between the equator and the Tropic of Cancer and has an average altitude of 3,000 meters above sea level, which makes it extremely rich in solar energy resources. Apart from solar energy resources, the country is also rich in agriculture, forestry, livestock, fisheries and mining resources. At present, half of the population in Ethiopia’s rural areas still live without or with insufficient electricity supply, so there is huge room for the construction of new energy sources.
Ethiopia’s “Light Up the Countryside” program is a US$10 billion project initiated by the Ethiopia-China Friendship and Cooperation Committee (ECCFC) and various ministries of Ethiopia, implemented by the ECCFC and fully supported by various ministries of Ethiopia, and is a cross-country version of the “Home Appliances to the Countryside” project. “The project will be organized into three consortia. Three consortia will be formed under the project: a supply consortium, a procurement consortium and a service consortium to facilitate the smooth implementation of the barter component.
“The Supply Consortium is aimed at the following enterprises: solar photovoltaic, energy storage, household appliances, lighting, electric bicycles, electric tricycles, electric motorcycles, electric vehicles, agricultural machinery, agricultural processing equipment, etc. The Procurement Consortium is aimed at the following enterprises.
The “Procurement Consortium” mainly targets the following enterprises: agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery, mining and other related enterprises.
The “service consortium” mainly targets the following enterprises: universities, research institutes, think tanks, logistics, finance, funds, law, finance, inspection and testing, labor dispatch, travel agencies, training companies, etc. ……
On the basis of helping to improve solar power generation facilities in rural areas of Ethiopia, the project will promote the sale and export of a large number of photovoltaic solar panels, energy storage batteries, electrical appliances and electric transportation products, and will also encourage a large number of agricultural and mining enterprises to import related products at lower prices and policies.
Photovoltaic, energy storage, home appliances and electric transportation, agriculture, mining and “service consortium” enterprises in principle Only a small number of enterprises will be selected for shortlisting in each category, and the central state-owned enterprise platform companies will settle in RMB in the form of domestic trade.
Enterprises participating in the “supply consortium”, “procurement consortium” and “service consortium” are required to submit application forms, which will be reviewed by the Egypt-China Friendship and Cooperation Committee and then proceed to the follow-up process. The application form should be submitted to the Egypt-China Friendship and Cooperation Committee for preliminary examination before entering the subsequent process.
Enterprises to be convened in the supply consortium
